We hear that message constantly—from AI researchers, tech CEOs, the media, and increasingly, the people building the technology itself. But what happens when the conversation about AI becomes so focused on what could go wrong that we stop talking about what could go right? In this video, I’m unpacking the recent conversation around AI safety, the risks of frontier AI, and calls to “pace the frontier” from people including Anthropic’s leadership and Elon Musk. I don’t work inside these AI labs, so I’m not going to pretend I know what they know or dismiss legitimate concerns about AI safety. But I do think there’s another part of the conversation that deserves more attention: what AI and automation make possible for ordinary people. We’ve seen this before with the internet and social media. These technologies created real problems, but they also dramatically lowered the barriers to starting businesses, reaching customers, building an audience, and creating wealth without traditional connections or capital. AI has the potential to do something similar—and possibly take it even further. That’s what I want to explore on this channel: using AI, automation, and emerging technology to build things, create opportunities, and accomplish goals that previously required money, connections, or institutional access. I’m a tech optimist. That doesn’t mean ignoring the risks. It means believing we should be having a bigger conversation about the opportunities, too.
